RATIONALE FOR COURSE:

Healthcare provision is governed securely having due respect for its clients and staff safety and rights.  All those working with clients requiring assistance with their mobility within this type of environment must be trained to a competent level.  The course is mandatory and must be undertaken by all staff working with those clients requiring partial or full assistance with their movements.

AIMS/OBJECTIVES:

  • To achieve theoretical and practical experience in moving and handling of persons and objects
  • To successfully complete and acquire assessed competence of the All Wales Passport Moving and Handling Workbook

TARGET AUDIENCE:

Care and Nursing Staff, Junior and Senior Management and administration staff, Social Care Staff, Domiciliary and Community Staff and any others who have an involvement in areas where their work comprises of moving and handling of clients and objects.

TEACHING METHODS:

Power Point Presentation, Discussion, Video, Group Work.

TRAINER BIOGRAPHY:

Cheryl Keeling is a Registered Mental Health Nurse with extensive experience in the care and management of individuals in varying areas of practice.  Her predominant background is in the field of forensic mental health where she has worked in secure and challenging areas including three years with Gwent and South Wales Police.  Cheryl has also worked within the NHS and in the Private Sector both as a Practitioner and a Manager.  She is a Six Sigma Project Manager, a Best Interests Assessor under the Mental Capacity Act, a Specialist Assessor for the Council of Forensic Practitioners, an Independent Hospital Manager and a Specialist Assessor for CQC.  She is PTLLS accredited allowing her to teach post 16 year olds in higher education and development and undertakes work as an independent trainer.  She has developed her training courses through knowledge gained from her working life utilising her experiences to impart realistic and understandable information.  Cheryl is an excellent communicator and has established herself a reputation as being a dynamic healthcare trainer who receives excellent accolades.
